A composer from Shizuoka prefecture, Junichi Nihashi went to Hamamatsu Shin-ai Gakuen High School --currently known as Hamamatsu Gakugei High School-- and advanced to Tokyo University of Fine Arts and Music with a major in composition. Following his graduation from the university, he enrolled into Conservatoire National Superieur de Musique de Paris where he studied harmony and counterpoint. He completed the studies with Premier Prix. His composition and theory teachers were the late Olivier Messiaen, the late Henri Challan, Bernard de Crepy, the late Tomojirou Ikenouchi, Mutsuo Shishido, and the late Akio Yashiro. Nihashi is a recipient of
numerous awards, which are the 1st place in the Concour
International de Composition de Marcel Josse, 2nd place in
the Concour International de Composition du Avre, and the
Takei Award. Some of his major works are the opera Saburo
Nobuyasu, Guitar Concerto, Hogiuta for
winds, and Images for guitar quartet. He has held
adjunct lecturer position at Toho Gakuen school of Music and
Senzoku Gakuen school, and is currently an assistant
professor at Hokkaido University of Education, Kushiro. |
